The Last Piece of the Puzzle: Why We Chose Nordlys
There are a lot of flashy devices in aesthetics. Every year another platform promises to do everything better, faster, and with less downtime than the one before it. And I’ll admit it: I’m a sucker for new toys. If it were entirely up to me, our treatment rooms would probably look like a laser showroom by now.
Fortunately for the practice, it is not entirely up to me. Giovanna notoriously vetoes my device wish list, and she’s usually right to. Between my enthusiasm and her skepticism, every major technology purchase has to survive one simple question: Does this allow us to solve problems we can’t already solve? If the answer is no, we pass. Or, more accurately, she passes for me. That’s why I call her the fun sponge.
Nordlys is the rare platform we agreed on from the start, because it filled gaps we both knew needed to be addressed. Every device in our practice has to earn its place, and this one did. In hindsight, it probably should’ve been our first device, but it’s finally here now and I am so excited to share it with you!

What Is Nordlys?
Rather than thinking of it as a laser, think of it as a platform. It houses multiple technologies that can be paired with different handpieces depending on what we’re trying to accomplish. We intentionally selected the handpieces that complemented the technology we already owned instead of duplicating it.

The Right Technology for Every Skin Tone
One thing that’s important to understand is that not every technology is appropriate for every skin tone. IPL is phenomenal for lighter complexions and remains one of the gold standards for treating redness and sun damage safely in those patients. The Frax lasers, however, allow us to improve texture, scars, and overall skin quality across a much broader range of skin tones. Having both technologies means we can recommend the treatment that makes the most sense for your skin instead of trying to force everyone into the same box.

Completing the Toolbox
That brings me back to why we bought Nordlys in the first place. It wasn’t because we wanted another laser. It was because we wanted a more complete toolbox. Before Nordlys, we already had excellent solutions for laser hair removal, tattoo removal, collagen remodeling, RF microneedling, and pigmentation. What we were missing was a truly elegant solution for redness, poikiloderma, diffuse sun damage, and more versatile resurfacing. Nordlys filled those gaps without replacing anything we already loved. That’s probably my favorite thing about this platform.
A patient might come in for our Light & Bright treatment to restore clarity and reduce redness. Another may benefit from Frax to soften acne scars or improve texture. Someone else may combine Nordlys with Matrix to address both skin quality and skin laxity. Every technology has a specific role, and together they allow us to build treatment plans that are far more personalized than any single device could provide.
I’ve always believed that technology should adapt to the patient, not the other way around.
That’s why you’ll never hear me claim one device is the answer to everything. It isn’t. Great outcomes come from understanding which technology is best suited for a particular concern and knowing how to combine them when appropriate.
For me, Nordlys represents the final piece of a vision I’ve had for years. Not because it’s the newest device in the practice, but because it completes our energy-based treatment portfolio in a way that allows us to confidently treat nearly every major skin concern we see.
As an added bonus, my neck is finally getting the attention it deserves.

FAQ’s
Not exactly. Nordlys is a multi-application platform that houses several light and laser technologies. At Skn Elements, we selected an advanced IPL handpiece along with the Frax 1550 and Frax 1940 fractional lasers because they best complemented the technology we already offer.
Depending on the technology used, Nordlys can improve sun damage, facial redness, rosacea, broken capillaries, brown spots, acne scars, enlarged pores, fine lines, uneven texture, and overall skin quality.
That depends on the treatment. IPL typically involves mild redness for a day or two. Frax treatments involve a few days of redness as the skin renews itself, and some patients notice mild swelling early on. We’ll recommend the option that best fits your goals and schedule.
Absolutely. In fact, that’s one of the biggest reasons we chose it. Nordlys complements Matrix, PicoSure Pro, medical-grade skincare, microneedling, and other treatments so we can address multiple concerns with one customized treatment plan.
You don’t have to know the names of the handpieces or understand the technology. That’s our job. During your consultation, we’ll evaluate your skin, discuss your goals, and recommend the combination of treatments that will produce the safest and most predictable results.
